(Tbilisi, May 26 2003, Civil Georgia) Georgia celebrates its National Independence Day on May 26. The day marks announcement of the Independence by the National Convent on May 26, 1918.
President Eduard Shevardnadze and Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burdjanadze laid wreath at the graves of the national heros and public figures. President has congratulated the nation saying the day is “the most important holiday for Georgia.”
Leaders of various nations have extended their congratulations, including the Russian President Vladimir Putin and the US President George W. Bush.
