Shevardnadze Calls for Saving Money in Banks

(Tbilisi, June 9 2003, Civil Georgia) – Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze hailed European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) activity in Georgia, saying the bank is implementing 28 investment programs in the country and is ready to allocate Euro 197m to fund these projects.

Eduard Shevardnadze said in his Monday radiobroadcast on June 9, that during the meeting with the representatives of the EBRD on June 6 they discussed development of the Georgian banking system.

?Due to such an approach we have once saved the banking system and now each citizen, who has savings, can transfer it to the banks, where their safe keeping is guaranteed. At the same time, this will promote the development of the banking system,? President Shevardnadze said.
