Shengelia Quits Post, Criticizes Nadareishvili

(Tbilisi, June 11 2003, Civil Georgia) – Former leader of the Georgian guerrilla group the Forest Brothers David Shengelia and accused the Tbilisi-based Abkhazia government-in-exile in inactivity to restore Georgia’s territorial integrity on June 10. He also quit the position of the Deputy Head of Gali Administration, that he held within the Abkhazia government-in-exile.

“The present authorities of Abkhazia [in-exile] do not want to return to Abkhazia. What Nadareishvili [head of the Tbilisi-based Abkhaz government] is saying is quite acceptable, but there are no results. Obviously, either someone hinders him, or he is obsessed by the slogans only. Therefore, he should either join us, or we will act against him,” David Shengelia told Civil Georgia today.

Shengelia said that the protest rally against the Abkhaz authorities-in-exile is being prepared in Zugdidi, western Georgia and will extend to Tbilisi starting next week.
