(Tbilisi, June 16 2003, Civil Georgia) – During a regular police raid in Tbilisi today a taxi, which was transporting radioactive sources Cesium and Strontium was seized near the Central Railway Station.
As the owner of the vehicle said, he knew nothing about the contents of the freight, since a stranger asked him to deliver it to certain persons at the Central Railway Station.
?As it turned out later, the radioactive sources belonged to Tedo Mokeria, who was delivering them to his father-in-law in Kobuleti [Adjarian Autonomous Republic],? Paata Gomelauri, Spokesman for the Georgian Interior Ministry told Civil Georgia.
According to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), over 280 radioactive sources have been recovered since the mid-1990s in Georgia.
