(Tbilisi, June 24, 2003, Civil Georgia) – At a June 24 regular session of the quadripartite commission (Georgian, Ossetian, Russian sides and OSCE) for Georgian-Ossetian conflict the Russian side expressed concern with the lack of progress in the settlement of the Georgian-Ossetian conflict.
?We are concerned about the current situation in the Georgian-Ossetian settlement. Previously observed positive dynamics has been dragged,? Mikhail Maiorov, the head of the Russian delegation in the quadripartite commission told the reporters today.
The Russian side called Georgia and Ossetian sides to implement the agreements reached between the conflicting sides. ?We are ready to do our best to reach progress in the Georgian-Ossetian resolution; however, the sides should overcome mutual mistrust and find mutually acceptable solution of existing problems,? the Russian diplomat said today.
Douglas Davidson, deputy chief of the U.S. Mission to the OSCE, while speaking at the June 17 meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council in Vienna also expressed concern regarding the lack of progress in Ossetian conflict zone.
“It is unfortunate that, despite earlier optimism, the political settlement talks on South Ossetia are not faring better,” he noted.
