(Tbilisi, June 30, 2003, Civil Georgia) – Chairman of the Georgia Parliamentary Committee on Defense and Security Irakli Batiashvili claims Russia wants to install anti-aircraft missiles near Kodori gorge, which is the only part of breakaway Abkhazia under the Georgian authorities? control.
?In case of renewal of the armed clashes in Abkhazia, Russia will totally block the gorge with the anti-craft missiles,? Batiashvili said on June 29 in the interview to the Tbilisi-based Imedi TV channel.
He also said that the Russian peacekeepers explain the necessity of installation of the anti-aircraft missiles in Abkhazia by possible appearance of the US spy planes over Abkhazia.
