(Tbilisi, August 2, 2003, Civil Georgia) – Georgian Parliament violated the election scorecard delivered by former US Secretary of State James Baker and agreed by the Georgian political parties, under which the Parliament should have adopted the new Election Code by August 2.
The US-suggested election scorecard considers the guidelines necessary for holding of fair parliamentary elections scheduled for November 2.
The Parliament rejected on July 31 by second hearing the rule of composition of the Central Electi!
on Commission, as pro-Presidential factions, as well as Revival and Industrialists voted against.
The MPs will continue to discuss the issue at a special session on August 5.
