(Tbilisi, August 5, 2003, Civil Georgia) – Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze met with Special Representative of the US Defense Secretary on Georgian issues Otar Shalikashvili on August 4 to discuss the military cooperation between the two states.
As the press service of the President of Georgia reports, Otar Shalikashvili stressed the importance of the cooperation, hoping it would become more fruitful in future.
He hailed the implementation of the US-funded Train and Equip Program for Georgian troops, saying it wou!
ld end in May 2004 and by that time the Georgian authority should prepare a new plan of activity in order to move forward to the NATO standards.
The Special Representative of the US Defense Secretary expressed satisfaction with dispatching of Georgian peacekeepers to Iraq.
On behalf of the US Administration Shalikashvili expressed gratitude to Georgia for the support in the global war against terrorism.
