(Tbilisi, August 7, 2003, Civil Georgia) – A special session of the Parliament of Georgia was not held today due to absence of quorum.
The MPs from opposition and pro-governmental factions blamed each other for lack of quorum.
The today’s session should have discussed the amendments to the Election Code, considering implementation of broad anti-fraud measures.
Next session of the Parliament, which is scheduled for August 12, will start with the discussion of the issue of budgetary correction, which implies cutting of expenditures by 86 million Lari (USD 40.3 million). Budgetary correction is one of the main recommendations of the IMF.
