(Tbilisi, August 20, 2003, Civil Georgia) – The Georgian Ministry of Communications denied that the Georgian side will sell its shares in Georgian Telecom to the Russian Rostelecom company.
The Georgia government owns 51% of Telecom?s shares. The U.S. Metromedia Communications Group owns 30% and remaining 19% is owned by the Bulcom, a Cyprus-based investment company.
?We do not intend to sell our assets. I also do not have any official information regarding the U.S. company?s intentions to sell its shares to the Russian company,? Merab Adeishvili, the Minister of Communications, told the reporters t!

Recently the United Democrats opposition party expressed concern regarding the possible entry of the Russian company to the Georgian communication systems.
The Georgian Telecom was established as a limited liability company in 1994 to provide domestic and international long distance services in Georgia.
