(Tbilisi, August 25, 2003, Civil Georgia) – Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze welcomed the launch of an anti-crime operation in the western Georgian high mountainous region of Svaneti.
“Unfortunately, Svaneti has become a safe haven for criminals recently. It poses a great threat to the local residents and tourists. Therefore, we will restore order in the region by all means,” said the President in his radio broadcast on August 25.
Shevardnadze called on the local residents to support the anti-crime operation.
