Protest Rallies in Georgia Demand Pension Repayment

(Tbilisi, August 29, 2003, Civil Georgia) – As many as 300 pensioners today held a protest rally in a central Georgian city of Gori demanding the repayment of a pension backlog.

They also demanded the local court to start consideration of their lawsuit against the government on repayment of the pension backlog for 1998-99 years.

Pensioners? protest rallies were also held today in a western Georgian city of Zugdidi and the capital city of Tbilisi.

The pensioners, who gathered in front of the State Chancellery, also demanded payment of the pension backlog.

Mothers of more than two children rallied on Aug!
ust 29 in front of the Mayor?s Office in Tbilisi. They demanded the Tbilisi City Council to pay their allowances.
