Reports say that up to 200 Russian peacekeepers unilaterally started this morning raids in the streets of Zugdidi, a town at the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict zone, searching for the abducted peacekeeper.
The soldier, Alexander Derevyanko, was kidnapped in the town of Zugdidi by four armed men who bundled him into a car and drove away on September 27.
Russian peacekeepers started patrolling in the streets of Zugdidi, stopping cars and searching local population. Russian peacekeepers unilateral moves in the Georgian town caused Tbilisi?s protest.
?This is violation of CIS peacekeeping troops? mandate. We have prepared a protest note, which will be sent to the CIS peacekeeping headquarters,? Merab Antadze, Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister said.
Russian peacekeepers are deployed in the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict zone under the auspices of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
