UES Deputy Chief Visits Tbilisi

Andrei Rapoport, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of Russia’s state-owned company Unified Energy System (UES), arrived in Georgia today to discuss the current energy crisis with Georgian Energy Minister Mamuka Nikolaishvili.

The sides will also discuss the prospects of future cooperation and the ways of overcoming the crisis in the country.

The issue of import of Russian electricity to Georgia will be discussed as well.

Presently Georgia is facing sharp energy crisis. Due to the deliberate damage of the Kavkasioni high voltage power line in western Georgia only vital facilities are supplied with electricity.

UES purchased a 75 percent stake in the Telasi electricity distribution facility from the U.S. company AES in early August.
