The National Democratic Institute (NDI) will dispatch on October 4-8 a high-rank delegation to Georgia to monitor the pre-election preparations in the country.
The delegation will consist of Gen. John Malkhaz Shalikashvili, former chief of the US Joint Staffs, Strobe Talbot, President of the Brookings Institution, Brooke Shirer, Member of the Board of the International Women’s Research Center, Patrick Merloe, NDI election programs coordinator, etc.
The pre-election mission aims at expressing the international society’s support to the democratic elections in Georgia.
The members of the delegation will meet with the representatives of the government, parliament, political parties, media and civil society, as well as the representatives of international organizations in Tbilisi.
“Georgia’s future and its relationship with democratic nations will greatly depend on the upcoming parliamentary elections. NDI is glad to dispatch such an important delegation to Tbilisi to express our support to fair and democratic elections,” NDI Chairperson Madeleine Albright said in Washington.
Since 1994 NDI has been implementing programs in Georgia over development of democratic elections, parliament, political parties, local government and civil organizations.
