State Minister Condemns Bolnisi Incident

State Minister Avtandil Jorbenadze condemned the incident, which took place today between the supporters of the opposition National Movement party and the local authorities in the Bolnisi district of the Kvemo Kartli region of southern Georgia.

“Anyone, who violates the law, must be punished, be it the representative of the opposition or pro-governmental party,” Jorbenadze said on September 26.

The incident took place in Bolnisi after Mikheil Saakashvili, the chairman of the Tbilisi City Council and the leader of the National Movement, and his supporters arrived in the region for election campaigning.

They were blocked at the entrance of Bolnisi by the local authorities, police and supporters of the presidential-backed election bloc For New Georgia. Dozens injured as a result of the today’s clash. 

The Bolnisi Prosecutor’s Office and the General Prosecutor’s Office will jointly investigate the incident.
