The Central Election Commission (CEC) is considering the claim against the chairmen of Kvareli and Telavi district election commissions in eastern Georgia.
Both of the officers are the candidates of the opposition parties. The chairman of the Telavi district commission was nominated by the opposition National Movement party, while the chairman of the Kvareli commission is a candidate of Burjanadze-Democrats.
The opposition says that the claim against the Kvareli and Telavi district commissions is an attempt of the authorities to further reduce opposition presence in the lower level commissions.
At the moment only 5 out of 75 district election commissions are headed by the opposition nominees.
