Kidnapped Russian Peacekeeper Freed

Russian peacekeeper Gregory Derevyanikh, kidnapped in western Georgian town of Zugdidi on September 27, was released late on September 30.

The peacekeeper was released a result of joint action of the Russian peacekeeping forces, deployed in the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict zone under the auspices of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), and the Georgian law-enforcement agencies. Details of the release are not reported.

On September 29-30 Russian peacekeepers unilaterally launched patrolling in the streets of Zugdidi, a Georgian town bordering the Abkhazia, searching for the abducted peacekeepers.
