President Shevardnadze met today with his Uzbek counterpart Islam Karimov, who arrived in Georgia on an official two-day visit on October 9.
The two Presidents signed five inter-state agreements, including the agreements on eradication of illegal drug-trafficking and on bilateral cooperation.
?The issue of repatriation of Meskhetian Turks [they were deported from Georgia in 1944, many of them still live in Uzbekistan] has not been discussed during the meeting. This issue can not be solved only by Georgia and Uzbekistan,? Georgian Foreign Minister Irakli Menagarishvili said after the meeting on October 10.
Earlier this week President Shevardnadze said that Georgia would be ready to repatriate Meskhetian Turks after settlement of the Abkhazian and South Ossetian conflicts.
