Civil Society Leaders Condemn Pre-Election Situation in Adjara

The representatives of the human rights advocacy NGOs expressed today protest regarding the pre-election situation in the Adjarian Autonomous Republic.

“The authorities of the Autonomous Republic has not submitted the voter lists of the regions to the Central Election Commission yet. Thus no one has an opportunity to double-check the data, that triggers doubts over the fair elections in the region,” Tina Khidasheli of Young Lawyers Association of Georgia said at a news briefing held at the Elections Media Center on October 27.

Tina Khidasheli expressed concern regarding the passive role of the central authorities and the Central Election Commission regarding the Autonomous Republic’s refusal to submit the voter lists.

The civil society leaders also condemned the violence against the opposition parties in Adjara. They condemned disperse of the National Movement parties protest rally in Batumi by the authorities of the Autonomous Republic.
