Saakashvili Urges Police not to Use Force

Leader of the opposition National Movement party Mikheil Saakashvili called on the Georgian law enforcement agencies to avoid use of force against peaceful protesters.

“Today entire Georgia will hit the streets. These people have the only demand – to live in the normal country. I believe you [law-enforcement agencies] will never act against people. We should stand together and everything will be all right in our country. I pin hopes on you,” Saakashvili said while appealing to the representatives of the law-enforcement agencies.

People started to gather in front of the Tbilisi Municipality in the center of the capital to protest against manipulation of the November 2 parliamentary elections.

According to the official results two governmental parties – Eduard Shevardnadze’s For New Georgia and Aslan Abashidze’s Revival Union lead the polls.
