Local residents near Telavi, eastern Georgia blocked the railway and prevented movement of the troops and armament from Pankisi gorge to the capital Tbilisi.
Protesters in Tbilisi, who demand Shevardnadze’s resignation, claim the troops were to be moved to the capital, amid mass protest rally in front of the Parliament.
Koba Narchemashvili, the Interior Minister insisted that the troops were moved from Pankisi due to deteriorating weather conditions.
