President Shevardnadze said the opposition’s protest rally is nothing more “but struggle for power”.
“This is the struggle for power. They [opposition leaders] abuse the sincerity of tens of thousands of people. The opposition leaders fail to reach an agreement even among each other. Some of them want to summarize the election results under the supervision of the Central Election Commission, while others demand cancellation of the results and holding of new elections,” Shevardnadze said in his Monday radio broadcast on November 17.
However, all the three opposition leaders – Mikheil Saakashvili, Nino Burjanadze and Zurab Zhvania – reiterated on November 16 that the opposition’s only demand is Shevardnadze’s resignation.
