The Central Election Commission announced today final results of the November 2 parliamentary elections. Below is the list of parties, which cleared 7% barrier nessasary to secure seats in the Parliament.
1. Shevardnadze’s bloc For New Georgia – 21,32%
2. Abashidze’s Revival Union – 18,84%
3. Saakashvili’s National Movement – 18,8%
4. Labor Party – 12,04%
5. The Burjanadze-Democrats – 8,79%
6. The New Rights – 7,35%
As a result For New Georgia secured 38 seats in the new Parliament; Revival Union – 33 seats; National Movement – 32; Labor Party – 20; the Burjanadze-Democrats – 15; the New Rights – 12.
Other 75 seats in the 235-seat Parliament will be occupied by the MPs elected in the single-mandate constituencies and remaining 10 seats by the representative of the Abkhaz government-in-exile.
The National Movement and the Burjanadze-Democrats opposition blocs boycott the new Parliament and refuse to take seats in the legislative body, accusing the authorities of rigging the results. They demand President Shevardnadze’s resignation and holding of the new parliamentary elections.
