U.S. Says Fraud Undercut Efforts for Fair Elections in Georgia

Bruce Connuck, Political Counselor at the U.S. Mission to the OSCE, said on November 20 in Vienna that the United States is deeply disappointed that “massive vote fraud” in some regions of Georgia undercut efforts to hold free and fair elections.

He urged the authorities to ensure that the run-off on November 23 is conducted in full accordance with Georgia’s Unified Election Code “and with international and OSCE standards of fairness and transparency.”

In remarks to the OSCE Permanent Council Bruce Connuck called on all sides “to respect the role of peaceful assembly in the political process” and said the United States is encouraged that “so far, calm has prevailed.”
