Leader of the National Movement Mikheil Saakashvili, who was a key figure in bloodless revolution, announced today that his party?s activists were ordered to withdraw from every governmental building throughout Georgia, in order to secure ?normal functioning of the authorities.?
The National Movement activists seized the governmental buildings in several provincial regions and prevented the local authorities to perform duties, after the opposition announced nation-wide disobedience campaign to force Shevardnadze to resign.
?We [National Movement] are not going to take over the executive government?s duties. Nino Burjanadze is the interim President of Georgia,? Mikheil Saakashvili said.
He said that all the ministers remain on the posts. Nino Burjanadze?s power as an acting President is limited and has no right to dismiss government members.
?But I demand Interior Minister?s resignation [Koba Narchemashvili]. He poses threat to order,? Saakashvili added.
However Koba Narchemashvili said today he will not resign. He expressed readiness to cooperate with the new leadership.
