Burjanadze at OSCE Ministerial Council

Georgian Interim President Nino Burjanadze visits Maastricht to participate in the annual OSCE Ministerial Council on December 1-2.

According to the Georgian Foreign Ministry Nino Burjanadze is a special guest at the council to address the OSCE member states regarding the situation in Georgia after the velvet revolution.

It is anticipated that Nino Burjanadze will hold meeting with Colin Powell, the U.S. Secretary of State.

?We will have some issues, serious issues, to discuss with respect to what’s happened in Georgia recently and what we might do to help the new leadership in Georgia get ready for new elections, which will be held in just 42 days’ time. And I’m sure that will be a subject of discussion,? Colin Powell said on November 25.

Nino Burjanadze will also meet Bruce George, the President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.

The OSCE reports, that Bruce George appeals to the Georgian Government and Parliament to do their utmost to organize presidential and parliamentary elections, which would meet international standards.

He also appealed to the international community to help fund these elections and to assist as in the past in advising and monitoring.

Bruce George also urged the international community, many of whose countries are represented in Maastricht, to provide substantial economic assistance to Georgia during its difficult period of its history.
