CNN reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin in a phone conversation with U.S. President George W. Bush on December 1, along with other issues, discussed situation in Georgia.
According to the press service of the Russian President Bush “praised Russia’s role” in Georgian peaceful transition of power.
Russia’s Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov mediated talks between the opposition leaders and Eduard Shevardnadze, who stepped down on November 23.
Both presidents, according to the press service, urged international monitoring of the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections in Georgia.
