Presidential candidate Mikheil Saakashvili said today, while commenting on talks between Nino Burjanadze, the Interim President and Adjarian leader Aslan Abashidze that he welcomes ?dialogue with the head of Adjara Autonomous Republic.?
?It is very important to continue dialogue,? Saakashvili said, however reiterated ?no compromise will be made at the expense of the constitution.?
Burjanadze and Abashidze failed on December 10 to agree on the date of the presidential elections, which are scheduled for January 4. Abashidze says he will boycott elections, if the country?s new leadership refuses to postpone them until June.
?Elections should be held as required by the constitution,? Saakashvili said. According to the constitution the snap presidential elections are held within the 45 days after the president?s resignation.
?What happened in Georgia until now fully complied with the Constitution. Now, boycotting the elections means violation of law and neglecting of people?s will,? Saakashvili said at a news briefing on December 11.
