Presidential candidate Mikheil Saakashvili called on Adjarian leader Aslan Abashidze to hold elections in Adjara Autonomous Republic and not to boycott January 4 snap presidential elections.
?He [Aslan Abashidze] must act in accordance to the Constitution of Georgia. I intend to be the President of entire Georgia, including the Adjarian region. I do not intend to repress him, but if he violates the Constitution, he will be punished severely,? Saakashvili said at a news briefing on December 18.
He said he is ready to make a compromise with Aslan Abashidze, but not at the expense of the state interests.
Head of Adjara Autonomous Republic Aslan Abashidze threatens to boycott elections, if the central authorities refuse to postpone elections until June.
It is expected that Abashidze final decision over the elections will be known after the talks with State Minister Zurab Zhvania, which is scheduled for the nearest days.
