Interim President, CEC Chief Discussed Election Preparations

Interim President Nino Burjanadze met today with Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Zurab Tchiaberashvili to discuss the pre-election situation in the country. 

“I call on each citizen of Georgia to be more active and undergo registration. Our supreme goal is to hold fair and transparent presidential and parliamentary elections in the country. We are interested in duly appointing the parliamentary elections after the presidential elections,” Nino Burjanadze said after the meeting with the CEC Chairman.

According to the CEC, 1,3 million voters have been registered since December 15.

The Central Election Commission has prolonged the voter registration process until December 25.

She said, the main task of the interim government is to convince Adjarian leader Aslan Abashidze not to boycott the presidential elections.

She said that Zurab Zhvania, the State Minister intended to visit Batumi on December 23, however the visit was postponed, as there is no final decision from the Adjarian leader, whether he will participate in the presidential elections or not.
