Davit Mirtskhulava, the chairman of the energy regulatory commission and the former Minister of Energy was hospitalized with the heart attack while being interrogated at the General Prosecutor’s Office.
The General Prosecutor’s Office reported today that Mirtskhulava faces charges on fraud allegations and misuse of power while serving as Energy Minister in 2000-2003.
The law enforcers claim that Mirtskhulava intended to flee the country, when he was arrested and brought to the General Prosecutor’s Office for interrogation. However, ex-Minister’s relatives denied that he wanted to leave Georgia.
Davit Mirtskhulava is the third high-rank former official, which is charged for fraud allegations. Georgian law enforcers have already filed criminal case against Akaki Chkhaidze, former chief of the state-owned Georgian Railway Company and Levan Mamaladze, former governor of Kvemo Kartli and ally of Shevardnadze. Both of them are wanted by the Georgian law enforcers.
