Kidnapping Suspects Reject Allegations

The court sentenced today two, out of three detainees suspected in banker’s abduction to three-month pre-trial detention.

The police claim these three persons, arrested on January 10, are behind kidnapping of member of the supervisory board of the Georgian United Bank Tamaz Maghlakelidze.

One of the suspects is employee of the Georgian Defense Ministry, Lieutenant General Gia Vashakidze. Lawyers of the detainees say that kidnapping suspects deny accusations.

The lawyers also said that the police tortured kidnapping suspects.

Tamaz Maghlakelidze was abducted at the gunpoint on December 5. Former hostage said after the freed by the police special operation on January 10 that he was kept by the kidnappers in the hole outside Tbilisi.

Tamaz Maghlakelidze said that the kidnappers demanded ransom. However, as officials and former hostage say, no ransom has been paid.
