U.S. Allocates More Financial Assistance for Georgia

U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Lynn Pascoe arrives in Tbilisi today to hold meetings with President-elect Mikheil Saakashvili, Interim President Nino Burjanadze and State Minister Zurab Zhvania.

The issues of U.S. assistance to Georgia and further cooperation between the two states are planned to be discussed during the visit.

Lynn Pascoe and Zurab Zhvania will sign an agreement on allocation of USD 3 millions by the U.S. Government, which is salary support for Georgian troops trained by the U.S. military instructors in frames of Georgia Train and Equip Program (GTEP).

Last December U.S. Ambassador Richard Miles signed an agreement with the Georgia government permitting the payment of up to USD 5 million for pensions.
