The news broke today that Aslan Abashidze visited Moscow to warn the Russian authorities regarding the anticipated deterioration of situation in the Autonomous Republic.
“There some information that certain forces intend provocations in Adjara. This was the main issue discussed by Aslan Abashidze in Moscow,” Hamlet Chipashvili, representative of the Autonomous Republic to Tbilisi told reporters on January 23.
Aslan Abashidze was visited Moscow last week as well. After his visit the Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement on January 20 condemning “extremist-minded forces” in Adjara, which try to force Adjarian leader Aslan Abashidze to resign.
