Kidnapper Suspect May Reveal High Officials Linked to Abductions

Georgian Security Minister Valerie Khaburdzania expressed hope that the interrogation of suspected kidnapper Shota Chichiashvili will reveal the names of those law enforcer officials, who were involved in masterminding kidnappings.

“We hope that Chichiashvili will name officials, who were the participants and organizers of high-profile kidnappings that took place in Georgia in recent years,” the Security Minister said at a news briefing on January 21.

Russia extradited Shota Chichiashvili, who was arrested in Moscow last summer, to Georgia on January 21.

Chichiashvili is suspected of several high-profile abductions, including the kidnappings of two Spanish businessmen in 2000, Georgian Parliamentarian Petre Tsiskarishvili and the British banker Peter Shaw in 2002.
