The Parliamentary special session launched today discussion of the constitutional changes introduced by the government, considering introduction of the Prime Minister’s position.
The Parliamentary opposition – the New Rights faction and the Traditionalists, as well as President Saakashvili’s former ally MP Koba Davitashvili – criticized the proposed draft claiming it envisages weakening of the legislative body on the expense of the President and the Prime Minister.
However, the President, as well as the State Minister Zurab Zhvania, who is expected to be nominated for the Prime Minister’s post, claims the changes are necessary for the executive government to carry out drastic reforms in the country.
