CEC Postpones Deadline for Registration of Election Blocs

The Central Election Commission (CEC) moved deadline for the political parties to be registered as an election bloc from February 14 to February 19, after the request of the Industrialist opposition party.

Thus the political parties will have one more week to choose the political partners for the upcoming March 28 parliamentary elections.

“The threat to the political pluralism is real [as domination of the ruling political coalition is vivid], thus I think the political parties should have time for creating election blocs in order to clean the 7% threshold [necessary to secure seats in the Parliament],” Chairman of the Central Election Commission Zurab Tchiaberashvili said at the CEC session on February 11.

The opposition New Rights, Industrialists and Traditionalists parties hold consultations over the creation of the opposition election bloc.
