Badri Bitsadze, who is a husband of Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze, was appointed as Deputy Interior Minister and Commander of the Border Guard Department.
As a result of the government’s structural reforms the Border Guard Department was transformed under the Interior Ministry’s subordination.
“Badri Bitsadze is a good professional and the fact that he is the Parliamentary Chairperson’s husband has nothing common with his appointment,” Prime Minister Zurab Zhvania said on February 20 before departure to Rome, where delegates from Green parties across Europe are to meet.
Badri Bitsadze, who previously served as a Deputy General Prosecutor, replaced on the post of Commander of the Border Guard Department Valeri Chkheidze who was appointed on February 19 as a Deputy Security Minister and chief of the Intelligence Department.
