The Council of Europe’s (CoE) observer mission launched monitoring of the pre-election situation in Adjara, Representative of Council of Europe’s Secretary General to Georgia Plamen Nikolov told reporters in Batumi on March 19.
He hailed March 18 agreement between President Saakashvili and Adjarian leader, which defused confrontation between Tbilisi and Batumi.
Plamen Nikolov recalled proposal of the CoE Secretary General Walter Schwimmer to start working over the draft to distribute of constitutional rights between Adjarian Autonomy and Georgia’s central authorities.
“CoE is ready to offer its expertise in this regard,” Plamen Nikolov said.
