President Saakashvili inspected Marneuli military air fieled in southern Georgia on March 21 and vowed to double the helicopter fleet of the air forces “in the nearest future.”
Saakashvili said helicopters were vital “for a mountaneous country like Georgia” while addressing the servicemen of the Marneuli air filed.
At the moment Georgia has Russian-made two Mi-2; three Mi-24; two Mi-8 helicopters and eight UH-1U “Huey” helicopters, granted by the United States.
Mikheil Saakashvili also promised to double the salaries of the pilots and technical personnel.
