PACE to Observe Elections in Georgia

A 40-member enlarged delegation from the Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe (PACE) will observe the parliamentary elections in Georgia on 28 March 2004 as part of an international election observation mission (IEOM).


As the Council of Europe reports, the enlarged delegation will be led by Mátyás Eörsi.


The parliamentarians, who will be in Georgia from 26 to 30 March, are scheduled to meet with Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze, Chairman of the Central Election Commission Zurab Tchiaberashvili, as well as representatives of political parties, media and civil society, before observing polling and counting on the day of the vote.


Four two-person teams are expected to observe the elections in the Adjara Autonomous Republic.


The observation will be carried out in co-operation with the OSCE/ODIHR, OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and European Parliament.
