The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine convened Georgia’s Ambassador Grigol Katamadze and requested explanations regarding President Saakashvili’s statements, who said that the Adjarian leadership might recruit mercenaries in Ukraine and Chechnya.
“The Ukrainian government is concerned over these statements of President Saakashvili about recruiting mercenaries in Ukraine for their further use against the Georgian authorities,” the Russian news agency RIA Novosti reports quoting First Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Vladimir Yelchenko.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry urged the Georgian authorities to make urgent explanations in this regard.
The Adjarian leader Aslan Abashidze also dismissed on March 24 statement of Saakashvili as “ridiculous.”
