Lawyer of former Chief of the state-owned Georgian Railway company Akaki Chkhaidze has already paid more than $3 million as a bail-out.
“Akaki Chkhaidze has already paid $3 million in order to be released from the pre-trail detention. He denies accusations and will prove his innocence in the court. But before that he is ready to pay this sum,” Chkhaidze’s attorney Archil Kbilashivili told reporters.
The court sentenced on January 18 Akaki Chkhaidze, ex-chief of the state-owned Railway Company and former President Shevardnadze’s close ally, to three-month pre-trial detention. He is accused of misappropriation of state funds.
Chkhaidze was arrested on January 16 in the Adjarian capital Batumi. Chkhaidze dismissed accusations as “politically motivated.”
