Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Zhvania said at a joint briefing with U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell in Washington on April 26, that relations between Russia and Georgia are “warming up.”
However he added that issue of “Russian military bases certainly remains to be very important and we’re looking for continuing support from U.S. too – that Russia fulfills its commitments from Istanbul Summit of OSCE.”
In 1999 Russia undertook commitment to pullout its troops from Georgia, however, Russia still has two military bases in Georgia – one in Adjarian capital Batumi and another in Akhalkalaki, southern Georgia.
