Russian Parliament Calls for Peaceful Solution of Adjara Crisis

The Russian State Duma, a lower chamber of the Parliament, adopted on April 28 a statement expressing concerns over the recent developments in Adjara Autonomous Republic.
 
“Escalation of tension increases concerns of Russian MPs. We have all reasons to suppose, that Tbilisi plans to use force for the conflict resolution,” the statement reads.
 
The MPs of the Russian State Duma condemn “military rhetoric” and “threats” that create an unfavorable atmosphere around the talks over this issue.
 
The Russian MPs admit that the relationship between Tbilisi and Batumi is Georgia’s internal affair, however stress that use of force in the region “can also affect Russia’s national security.”
 
“Use of force may have the grave, unpredictable consequences both for Georgia and the entire region,” the statement reads.
