President Saakashvili reiterated on May 3, that the country’s central authorities do not plan use of force to solve the Adjara crisis.
Mikheil Saakashvili met on Monday soldiers and officers, which have defected Adjarian leader Aslan Abashidze and arrived in Tbilisi. They are temporarily dislocated in one of the military units in Tbilisi.
The President warned Aslan Abashidze that refusal to disband paramilitary forces would have “negative consequences for him [Abashidze].”
Mikheil Saakashvili gave Aslan Abashidze 10 days to disarm his militia groups, after Adjarian authorities blew up bridges linking Autonomous Republic with the rest of Georgia. Otherwise Saakashvili threatened to dissolve Adjarian government and parliament.
