Former Secretary of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Zurab Nonikashvili, a member of the National Movement-Democrats party, was elected as an Acting Chairman of CEC on June 9.
Earlier on June 9, former acting chief of the CEC Dimitri Kitoshvili, filed his resignation. He will reportedly take over the position of the Chairman of the National Regulatory Commission for Communications.
Ex-chief of the Communications Commission Vakhtang Abashidze filed his resignation on June 9 as well.
Within the past two months, the Central Election Commission has changed chairmen three times. Dimitri Kitoshvili was elected as Acting Chairman of CEC after his predecessor Zurab Tchiaberashvili was appointed Mayor of Tbilisi.
