The Adjarian Supreme Election Commission (SEC) announced that according to the early official results President Saakashvili’s supporter party Victorious Adjara received 75% of votes in June 20 local elections in Adjara Autonomous Republic.
The Victorious Adjara is followed by the Republican Party with 9%. Other parties running for the elections failed to clear 7% threshold, according to the early results.
“These are preliminary results. According to the law the election commission has to announce final results within 18 days after the elections,” Irakli Pagava, the Chairman of the SEC told reporters.
The SEC also reported that candidates nominated by the Victorious Adjara lead polls in all 12 single-mandate constituencies of Adjara.
Irakli Pagava said, particular violations were reported at several polling stations, however “this will not become the ground for cancellation of results at these polling stations.”
Election watchdog NGO Fair Elections Foundation (FEF) conducted alternative vote tabulation at 250 precincts of Adjara Autonomous Republic out of total 301 polling stations.
The results by FEF suggest that the Victorious Adjara received 68,58% and the Republican Party – 13,62% support.
