Georgia, Russia to Ease Visa Requirements

The Georgian and Russian Presidents agreed during their meeting in Moscow on July 3 to simplify visa requirements between the two countries, Secretary of the Georgian National Security Council Gela Bezhuashvil told reporters.

Mikheil Saakashvili said prior to meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin that Georgia will unilaterally ease visa requirements for Russian citizens and expressed hope that Moscow would respond with reciprocal measures.

As a result, Georgian and Russian citizens will be able to receive a visa at the airport as opposed to queuing up at the embassy.

Gela Bezhuashvili also said that Mikheil Saakashvili and Vladimir Putin discussed the key issues of the Russian military bases in Georgia and the situation in breakaway South Ossetia.

Mikheil Saakashvili is expected to make detailed comments regarding his Moscow visit after his return to Tbilisi on July 4.
